International Journal of Writer Studies (IJWS) (Print ISSN: -; Online ISSN: -) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Hong Kong Information Education Publishing Company Limited. IJWS publishes two issues each year in English.
Scope and Topics
The International Journal of Writer Studies is dedicated to placing the writer at the center of scholarly inquiry and to advancing writer studies across national, linguistic, disciplinary, and media boundaries. Distinct from text-centered approaches to literary criticism, the journal focuses on writers’ creative practices, identity formation, intellectual genealogies, and the mechanisms of literary production and circulation, as well as their interactions with editors, publishing institutions, readers, media, and socio-historical contexts. The journal welcomes theoretical inquiry, case studies, comparative research, oral history, archival research, digital humanities, and empirical analysis, and encourages dialogue between global perspectives and local experiences. In addition to traditional writer studies, it pays particular attention to emerging categories of writers, including science fiction writers, writers of children’s literature, writers of online literature, writers of literary reportage, and writers of biographical literature, as well as emergent creative forms and writing agents associated with transmedia writing and AI-assisted writing. The journal aims to provide an open and rigorous scholarly platform for researchers worldwide, to foster theoretical innovation and knowledge accumulation in writer studies, and to deepen understanding and interpretation of the role of the writer in diverse cultural contexts.
Open Access Policy
IJWS is a fully open access journal that provides immediate and permanent free access to all published content for all users worldwide without requiring any article processing charges (APCs) or subscription fees. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, allowing unrestricted sharing, distribution, and reuse with proper attribution. Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the journal publishing rights. We support responsible scholarly sharing by permitting authors to deposit preprints in any repository without embargo and postprints immediately upon publication. This sustainable model maintains the highest standards of peer review and editorial quality while eliminating financial barriers to knowledge dissemination.
